Keeping Safe

Safeguarding Children

The welfare, safety and protection of our children are paramount.

Northumbria University Nursery works with all staff and parents to ensure safe environment is provided for all children, and that children will not be placed at risk while in their care.

The nursery has a legal duty to report any serious concerns they may have about a child to the Local Authority. The Children's Act 1989 & 2004, Safeguarding Children 2005, places responsibility and legal duty on persons caring for children to safeguard them and keep them from harm, and the Local Authority has a legal duty to investigate such concerns.

All nursery staff are aware of and understand the procedures they must follow if they suspect any abuse or neglect of a child in their care. Staff are trained in safeguarding actions and understand their responsibility to keep children safe.

Personal Callers/ Door Security

There is a bio metric fingerprint entry system for parents and staff to system to gain access to and from the nursery.

Expected visitors will be asked their name, nature of business, and the name of the person they have come to see, and show I.D. and this will be verified before access is granted.

In the event of a general enquiry, or unexpected visitor, the Nursery Business Administrator or Nursery Manager will ascertain the callers' identity and reason for visit before granting or refusing access.

Arrival and Departures

Parents sign the daily attendance book on arrival and departure with their child's name, time and parent's signature and named person who will collect the child.

Cameras and Recordings

Photographs or recordings taken of children in our nursery are only done with prior written permission from each child's parent. This is gained when each child is registered and is updated on a regular basis to ensure that this permission is still valid.

Staff are not permitted to take photographs or recordings of a child on their own devices and only use those provided by the nursery.

Parents are not permitted to use any recording device or camera on the nursery premises without the prior consent of the manager.

Mobile Phones

We believe staff should be completely attentive during their hours of working, to ensure all children in the nursery receive focussed care and education. This is why mobile phones are not used during working hours.

Parents are also required to adhere to this policy and our non- mobile phone policy in nursery is given to parents upon enrolment.
